Executive summary

Purpose of Intervention

These licence compliance inspections were carried out as part of a series of planned inspections for the Chapelcross (CHX) decommissioning site during 2021/22.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

I carried out a themed licence compliance inspection on CHX’s Licence Condition (LC) 4, 5, 8, 25, 32, and 34 arrangements for control of radioactive materials & waste and their implementation. In addition, I held on-site meetings that included quarterly meetings with the CHX Safety Representatives, and a meeting on progress with CHX’s decommissioning projects.

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

From the documentation sampled and the areas inspected, I found that CHX’s implementation of their LC4, 5, 8, 25, 32 and 34 arrangements for the control of radioactive materials and waste was adequate.  

Conclusion of Intervention

I judged that CHX’s implementation of their LC4, 5, 8, 25, 32, and 34  arrangements for the control of radioactive materials and waste was adequate in the areas inspected and that during these inspections I did not identify any significant regulatory concerns.
