The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has announced a new partnership with Global Nuclear Security Partnership (GNSP) and Ubique Risk Management (URM) to develop specialist nuclear security training for Great Britain’s nuclear industry.
ONR, GNSP and URM will design and deliver training programmes for industry professionals, aligned with ONR’s security assessment principles (SyAPs).
The initiative forms part of a broader programme to update the SyAPs, ensuring the nuclear security regulatory framework reflects up-to-date relevant good practice.
To help shape the training development, GNSP and URM will be engaging with dutyholders ahead of the launch of the training.
Brian Daly, ONR’s Head of Profession for Protective Security, said: The suite of courses being developed will ensure that nuclear security training across the UK is delivered to a single and consistently high standard.
“The training will also play an invaluable role in enhancing the skills and knowledge of security professionals transferring from other industries into nuclear, thus helping to build capacity to meet the demands of a growing civil nuclear industry.”
Richard Ross, Managing Director at Ubique Risk Management, said: “We’re really proud to collaborate with ONR and GNSP in developing this essential training for Great Britain’s nuclear industry.
“Strengthening security practices through tailored, high-quality training ensures that industry professionals are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to meet evolving security challenges.”
Philip Hannah, Senior Partner at GNSP, added: “Strengthening nuclear security is not just about compliance; it's about building resilient, forward-looking organisations. We're pleased to be working with ONR and URM to deliver training that supports a modern, adaptive regulatory framework and reinforces the UK’s leadership in nuclear security.”
